Summer Camp

Summer camp is almost a right-of-passage. Packing up a sleeping bag, a couple towels, a pile of shorts and t-shirts, a dozen pairs of socks, and a pair of sneakers and you’re off to the woods with your new best friends. Kids will find fun in long, sweaty days of crafts, running around playing games, swimming, and learning to make it on their own without mom or dad reminding them to brush their teeth and use their good manners. Camp teaches kids independence and confidence in themselves, but at the same time, to trust and depend on others. In many ways, it makes kids grow and mature.

This summer, as we did last year, the ZC Jeffers Foundation will be sending five campers to camp for a week. For too many children in Baltimore, their regular life is unstable and their summer life is filled with boredom on the streets. Not such a good equation. The Foundation works in conjunction with Helping Up Mission in Baltimore City and Innterim, the Baltimore County Public School system's outreach to sheltered and transitional children, to identify the camp and the children. We pay for all their camping necessities (toiletries, sleeping bags, etc.) and fund their camp bank for incidentals they will need while away.

We are sure that the children will have a wonderful week of adventure (and their parents will get a much-needed break from child-rearing).

This program, like our others, is funded by the proceeds from our Fathers Day Awards Banquet and donations from our supporters. Thank you!
