Father's Day Banquet

If there is one image that dominates the Bible, it would be that of a father. The first man becomes the first husband and father to the first children. God promises Abraham that he will be the father of many nations. Through the ten commandments, we are promised a long, full life if we honor our father and mother. The prayer we learn to recite and hold dear in our hearts, the Lord’s Prayer, begins with “Our Father.” Over and over again, the men and women of the Bible turn to their fathers for guidance and direction. In His last earthly moments, Jesus Christ seeks His Father in prayer and deliverance.

Our fathers are half of our DNA and our very existence. They make up who we are. Their wide nose, balding pattern, crooked smile, twinkling eyes, height, and complexion, as well as their discipline, sense of humor, values, ethics, and beliefs, all contribute to the person that we’ve become. Good or bad.

Last year, the Zachary C Jeffers Foundation held our first Fathers Day Award Dinner and Silent Auction. We sat down with our families for a meal that did not have to be unwrapped from take-out bags, gobbled hurriedly in the car, or eaten alone. We enjoyed a full buffet with a delicious array of foods and desserts, music, and family entertainment. Guests bid on auction items that ranged from jewelry to catered meals to hotel stays. In honor of our founding namesake, we recognized people who were working with homeless families in Baltimore City to help them improve their lives.

During his life, Pastor Jeffers was one of those helping people, and that's the lesson he left with his sons and their children. Each father leaves his own legacy and memories. All that our fathers have done for us or that the men in our lives are doing for their children, we join together during this dinner to celebrate and honor.

This year, we will continue our signature event, on Friday, June 17 at Martin’s West. Our Fathers’ Day Award Dinner and Silent Auction is the primary fundraising activity for our organization. With the funds raised from proceeds of ticket sales, purchase of auction items, and donations, we are able to provide our services to homeless shelters and families in Baltimore City. We invite you and your family to join us for a fun and blessed evening. If your schedule doesn’t allow for you to attend, we hope that you will find it in your heart to make a donation in your absence.

Thank you for your support. Tickets for our event may be purchased online at EventBrite - Fathers Day Dinner.

"Listen, my child, to what your father teaches you. Don't neglect your mother's teaching. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and clothe you in honor." Proverbs 1:8-9
