Let your light so shine

A lighthouse is a structure, usually a building or tower, that emits light to assist ships in navigation.  They are considered a “public good” in that there is no charge for its use and it’s available to assist anyone who can see it.

A lighthouse does not pilot the ship.  It does not push the boatmen into a particular direction.  It does not force anyone to do anything.  In its quiet, ever presence, a lighthouse guides any who will follow its light, either to a safe harbor or to continue on their way to their final destination.

Lighthouse keepers were essential to the operation of lighthouses to maintain their physical structure, as well as to keep the light burning.

On this day, we remember the Reverend Zachary C. Jeffers, who served as a lighthouse to many.  To his wife and sons, his grandchildren, and family, he lead them through life, giving them direction and guidance.  To his students and congregation, he taught them and shared his knowledge.  To his co-workers and friends, he shared his smile and laughter and good character.  And to the many people whose path was lighted by his goodness.  In shining the light of his love and his faith, Rev. Jeffers showed them all the way of and to God.

His wife, Mrs. Claudia Jeffers, and sons took up the task of being his lighthouse keeper.  When he was alive, they took care of him.  And when he left this earthly place, they took up the flame that he left behind.

We thank God for letting us share Rev. Jeffers while he was here.  We thank God for giving Mrs. Jeffers the vision to keep his light shining.  We pray that his sons and family keep the faith to continue his work.  And we invite you all to join us in sending out a beacon of hope and love in his memory.

God bless us all.
